new draft stroyboard

this is the new storyboard we are going to use for when we reshoot. its not much different ot the old one, but has a few new additions and ideas for the reshoot. this way we know exactly what we are doing when we reshoot and we will stick to it.

rough cut after initial filming - draft

we did our initial filming, in the right location, trying to get it as perfect as possible, we filmed on a rainy day to make it look gloomy and a bit scary and eerie. we found a clearing in a really densely forested area and shot between 3 and 5 to give a darker lighting. we filmed it as many different angles usig different shot lengths so we could come back and see what worked best. we then edited the shots roughly together and put some sounds on top to give an idea of what we want it to look like. after reviewing it we want to make some small changes, so we are going to reshoot the following weekend, we want to change:
- one shot has bad framing at one point, the actors head is not fully in the frame, so we will reshoot this
- we want to add a shot in, a mid shot of the actor lying down, to go between the long shot fo the tree's and the close up of the face, so it flows better.
- change the over the shoulder shot to a point of view shot, so it looks more natural
- film a few additonal shots to lengthen the piece, perhaps of the actor running through the trees
- more sound, as the actor is totally mute.

this was a really good idea as after we put it together we realised what we loved and didnt want to change, and what needed improvement, this will help us put together a much better opening.

This is actually the footage we used in the final product, because it was the best quality we could get, as although there were a few errors it was quite well done filming, it flowed well and there were no continuity errors which we feared there would be if we re shot parts of it.

Location shots - Black park

despite it being a little bit cliche, we chose to film our opening in a densely forested part of black park, to give the feeling of isolation and make it a bit scary and bleak. we filmed on a rainy day to make it look even gloomier to back up the scary gloomy feel. we took a few shots at the exact location we are going to film, it is important that the setting is right as it is a vital part of the makes the opening frightening, together with the lighting and the non diegtic whispers.

this was an important step in deciding where to film, we knew we wanted an isolated densely forested area that was away most people, so it took us a bit of time to find the exact area.

Props

a few props we are likely to use in our opening, most of them simply to give the piece verisimilitude, which is where something has a strong quality of realism.

the male character will be wearing a large hoody or coat as he has been found unconscious outside, he would have been wearing some sort of warm layer, or it wouldnt be realistic looking. this is about creating a sense of verisimilitude. if he were in shorts and a t shirt in january, it wouldnt look right.
we are adding a scarf and gloves for the same reason
we have added in the Ipod to establish the time in which our film is set, in modern day, and also to add to the realism.

this text is aesthetically pleasing, but looks quite cliche and very amateur. the drippy, smudgy nature of it lends itself better to a horror, and we are looking for a font that is quite childlike to contrast the dark narrative.

this font was also too stereotypical of a horror/thriller. it is quite arty and looks stamped, but we want a hand written feel to the font. so this wasnt a contender.

this font was quite childlike and handwritten, which were two qualities we were looking for. we also liked that it looks drawn with chalk, signifying a younger child, a toddler maybe, which was a nice twist. we didnt however like how rounded in shape the letters were, we felt it was too perfect and not scratchy enough.

this font was too perfect and pristine looking, it wasnt right at all. it looks too computer generated and not stylistic enough. it also looks quite feminine and we want a font that is more androgynous in gender.

this was an important step in deciding the aesthetics of the opening, we decided in the end we weren't sure about any of them and we are going to continue to look for a better font. we want one that is easily readable and not too artistic, but is childlike, stylistic and handwritten. we dont want it too neat, but neither do we want it to be too smudgy and stereotypical. it is hard finding the right font, but we are sure that none of these fit our idea.

we had to re arrange our schedule as we under estimated the amount of time we would need to plan for the opening.

evaluation of schedule no.2  (27/3/2011)
the schedul for filming here was mainly stuck to, we filmed on time and got a lengthy section of it completed, we then edited it and reviewed it, but when we looked at it as a whole we realised a significant amount was unusable and would have to be reshot. We then became behind on our filming and we didnt realise how many times we would have to reshoot, for the silliest of errors. therefore we didnt start editing the final outcome until the beginning of march, cutting it close to the deadline.
